Department of Zoology
was established in 1960 with Dr. Janaradhan Butte has the first Head of the
Department. Our main ingredient is student, so all the programs and activities
carried out in the Department are student centric.

With all other
activities Zoology Department is also very active and progressive in research
activities as both the Faculties of the Department of Research Guides with 8
students pursuing Ph.D. under their able guidance and some of them have
completed their research. Research is inculcated within the students from their
first year only by involving them to take part in Research Oriented programs
like Avishkar.

Also chart
competition, poster presentation and Science Quiz are some programs arranged by
the Department for students involvement in research. Students visit other
colleges from other areas to attend and participate in such events which shapes
their presentation and research skills.

12 students selected
for University Level Avishkar and two Selected for State level in two
consecutive years. Plus, students involvement in Projects sharpens their
research skills and the research seeds are sown which will bud and flourish
some time in future.

Programs like
sericulture and mushroom culture are arranged by the Department so that there
must be some practical use of zoology subject. Most of the students are from
rural background with a very little farms with them which have not much income.
Sericulture, vermiculture and mushroom culture gives these students and their
parents an opportunity for a secondary income which compensates for their
expenses occurred for their farming and also if there is drought.
